Degree programmes

The courses offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering cover a wide range of study content that goes far beyond traditional mechanical engineering topics (such as automotive engineering or welding technology).

Bachelor Mechanical Engineering/Master Product and System Development

In the winter semester 2012/2013, the previous diploma program in mechanical engineering was converted to the Bachelor's and Master's degrees (Bologna reform). Through intensive training in the basic subjects and targeted specialization, the bachelor's degree programme in mechanical engineering provides students with a broad knowledge base that opens up many career opportunities. Building on this, the consecutive master's degree program in product and system development is offered. Data processing as well as evaluation according to economic and ecological aspects are integrated into the degree programme. A bridge between theory and practice is formed by the practical study semester. For the summer semester 2020, the bachelor's degree programme in mechanical engineering was restructured and thus adapted to the challenges of the future.

Bachelor Hydrogen Technology (BWT)

The bachelor's degree programme in hydrogen technology, which started in the winter semester 2021/2022, focuses on hydrogen as an energy carrier and on the development, production and operation of hydrogen plants and systems.

Bachelor Hydrogen Technology Transnational (BWTT)

This internationally oriented hydrogen technology degree programme is offered in cooperation with the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Amman, Jordan. Up to and including the 4th semester, the programme takes place at the GJU in Jordan, from the 5th semester onwards in Schweinfurt at the THWS.

Bachelor Mechatronics (BMC and IMC)

The Bachelor Mechatronics programmes are offer training specialised in electrical and electronic mechanical engineering applications. During the degree programmes, basic information technology knowledge relevant to practice is also taught. All courses of the programme Bachelor Mechatronics (BMC) are held in German. However, it is also possible to study mechatronics in English via the twin degree programme Bachelor Mechatronics (IMC). BMC and IMC students can switch back and forth between German and English-language courses during their studies through the TWIN model. Both degree programmes are supported equally by the faculties of mechanical and electrical engineering and are thus unique at the THWS.
