THWS Card

The THWS Card is the multifunctional student ID card for all THWS students.

Functions

Prepaid card function

The THWS Card can be topped up with money at the machines to the right and left of the entrance to the Schweinfurt canteen and used as a prepaid card.

Almost all vending machines and payment systems (drinks machines, IC Print printers, etc.) at the THWS are cashless and only accept the THWS Card. You can also use it (as an alternative to cash) to pay for your food and drinks from the canteen.

Student ID card function

You can only take part in some events during your studies if you can identify yourself as a THWS student. This is also necessary for some interactions with THWS university services. The THWS Card is your student ID card.

Important information

Nevertheless, please always have an official identification document (preferably your identity card or European passport) at hand. This applies in particular to participation in examinations. The THWS card is not an unique identification document.

Semester ticket function

Since the 2016 summer semester, the THWS Card has also been valid as a semester ticket in Schweinfurt. As a student, you can use the entire public bus transportation network of Schweinfurt, operated by Stadtwerke Schweinfurt GmbH.

The ticket is paid for via a surcharge on the tuition fees that all Schweinfurt students have to pay in order to keep the additional costs for each individual as low as possible.

You can find the bus timetable on the website of Stadtwerke Schweinfurt GmbH.

Key card function

All doors in the mechanical engineering laboratories have an electronic locking system. The THWS Card can be used as a key card, provided you have the appropriate locking authorisation.

For some labs (e.g. the CAD lab), you will automatically receive authorisation to access the lab when you start your studies. For other labs, you can obtain it for a limited period of time via the head of the lab, provided she/he agrees and there is proof you need access to the lab for the current phase of your degree programme (project work, Master's or Bachelor's thesis, etc.).
